Barend

The Guitar Player

Barend started as a classical guitar player. From early on he also played electric guitar. From the age of 15 he started playing in bands and making his own compositions.

He finished his conservatory studies in 1996. As a guitar player he is into experimental music, mostly fusion and world music.

Players such as Frank Zappa, Robert Fripp, Adrian Belew, David Torn and Jeff Beck are his main influences on guitar. But also other musicians like Joni Mitchell, Miles Davis, Brian Eno and twentieth century classical composers like Steve Reich, Strawinsky and Debussy have influenced his music. Besides the electric guitar he also likes playing 12-string acoustic guitar and fretless guitar.

Barend is spending much time on creating his own unique sounds on multi effects and effect pedals. These sounds can be heard in his own compositions but also in his improvised soundscapes.

Right now he is playing guitar in electro rock formation Mur Du Son and fusion trio Thrang.
