Soundscapes

Barend’s experimental nature and interest in electronics and unusual sounds resulted in his love for ambient music and soundscapes. He grew up listening to minimal music composers like Steve Reich and Terry Riley.  Also the music of Robert Fripp and Brian Eno made a big impact on him. These musicians already worked with tape loops in the 70’s but with today’s digital effect machines even more is possible.

Barend is playing his guitar through several long delays and effects and also uses his Iphone as a mini synthesizer that can go in another long delay or loop. On his laptop he can manipulate the loops on the fly so they never become static and are constantly evolving.

Barend also does solo concerts with soundscapes. These soundscapes are mostly improvised. They sound very spherical and can be peaceful and harmonious but also dissonant and rhythmic. Just like real life!
